After several months of trying, I gave up on the replacing the 3,5" 40 Gb HD with a 120 Gb Toshiba SSD. I formatted the SSD from another mac with a SATA/IDE converter in USB to Mac OS Extended (journaled) and put the disk in my Cube, booted in target disk mode from a Mac OS 10.5.6 iso in my iBook G4, but the SSD is not recognized at all (both from DVD and diskutility).

I have taken the disk out and using the same SATA/IDE converter plugged in the USB port in the other Mac (powerbook G4 running 10.5.8) and same thing happened - SSD not recognized at all.

    What did I do wrong?

I also bought the OWCSSDMXLE120, with SATA/IDE adapter, but this drive is not recognized either (neither in the Cube or as USB on my iBook G4) and alas the casing (bracket) does not fit in the Cube.

Should I buy another SATA/IDE adapter?

Does your IDE/SATA-converter offer options for jumper-settings? If not, most of these devices are setup as master by default. So you should check the DVD’s jumpering. Wrong setup in this case is a common reason for drives not beeing recognized.

If you have options, try optical as master and ssd as slave. This is what’s working best for me.

PowerBook Duo 280c (PPC 2300c Upgrade), 100 MHz, 56 MB RAM, 2,1 GB HDD, Mac OS 7.6.1

PowerBook Duo 280c (PPC 2300c Upgrade), 100 MHz, 44 MB RAM, 1,1 GB HDD, Mac OS 8.6

both the SATA/IDE converter from (https://forums.macrumors.com/threads...acket.1981819/) and the OWC (OWCSSDMXLE120) SATA/IDE converter have jumpersettings.

On the first one: only master/slave (default = master)
On the OWCSSDMXLE120: master, slave, optical and a 4th option (default = Master)

I did not try with slave or optical drive jumpersettings, will try next weekend.

I use a Kingston SSD and a Delock mSATA to IDE adapter together with one of these:

in my Cube and it works great. The same adapter and SSD work in one of my Clamshells too.

                        - Transcend Highspeed 128GB interne mSATA SSD SATA III (6Gb/s) TS128GMSA230S https://www.amazon.de/Transcend-TS12...e-mSATA-128GB/
                        - Festplattengehäuse für Notebook/Laptop (flaches Profil, mSATA SSD auf 6,35 cm (2,5 Zoll) IDE 44-Pin) https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B083LXPF91
                        - Adapter https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B07ZNKPHNP/
